We were pleased to be able to do something positive to help those in need trapped in appalling and oppressive conditions in Calais. David Plowman started a local campaign using our office in Hadleigh as a collection point. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the people, businesses and charity shops in Hadleigh and surrounding villages.
The office soon filled up with vital items and helpers sorting and labelling. On the 13th September local Labour members joined activists from across Suffolk helping to get items loaded onto vans in Ipswich and onto Calaid distribution centre in Slough.
What is happening in Calais is not a migrant crisis. It is a humanitarian crisis. We are still sorting items ready for further deliveries to CalAid. Why not come and help? contact South Suffolk Labour Party to get involved.
