Personal reflections on a branch meeting at Pinewood

The Hadleigh, Nayland and Lavenham Branch is to be formally restored in the New Year.  In anticipation I recently attended a meeting of the Pinewood and Stour Valley Branch, accompanied by our Executive Committee members Jane Basham and David Plowman.

I would like to share my personal experience of this meeting with you.

On arrival we received a very warm welcome from the Pinewood and Stour Valley Chair, Graham Manuel, and helped put up the Labour banner which we had brought with us. The meeting room was arranged in a very informal manner, with all seating around tables, with nibbles, sweets and relevant campaign literature on all of the tables. Tea and coffee was available on arrival. We were immediately made to feel comfortable.

We were introduced to Pinewood and Stour Valley members and the three of us mingled with them each of us sitting at a different table. The local members were very friendly and put us at our ease. To me this was very important, particularly for new members, as helping to strengthen the team spirit.

The first part of the meeting consisted of a very well prepared Labour European related quiz conducted on a table team basis. The quiz was great fun and got us all well warmed up.

The quiz was followed by individual table discussions of the main reasons why we campaign. Then, in turn, each table gave their conclusions to the meeting.

The meeting was not only a sociable and entertaining evening but also very helpful for our collective political development.

Thank you all the members of the Pinewood and Stour Valley Branch.

I am looking forward to the restored Hadleigh, Nayland and Lavenham branch holding similar events in 2016.
