Campaigning against changes to tax credits

Phil Dunnett, South Suffolk Labour Party member is actively fighting the proposed tax credit cuts.

On the morning of 6 November Jane Basham, David Plowman and I campaigned against the proposed tax credit cuts outside Brantham Brooklands School. We met several parents and carers that will be affected by the cuts - one mum said she would be £100 a week worse off and that it would mean less to spend on her weekly food shop. Another, a single mum with three children, told us of her low paid dead-end job which was a 30 minute drive away. The tax credits she receives only just make working worthwhile. We handed out lots of leaflets that include the web address for a petition on the issue and several people said that they would sign it.

6,000 children live in families in receipt of working tax credits in South Suffolk. It appears our MP cares not a jot (he has voted for the cuts) and I don't see any locally elected representatives standing up for their constituents either - shame on them.

South Suffolk Labour Party will continue the campaign on this issue in Brantham and Shotley over the weekend of 14/15 November 2015.
